giving back

Who knew that the Internet would make me a better photographer?! I’ve been fortunate to have learned so much from other photographers online. I am constantly amazed and humbled by the willingness of those that share. When I recently had a chance to reciprocate, I was thrilled to be able to give something back. One of the online communities that I belong to recently held an “unconference” in beautiful San Luis Obispo County. We had some amazing workshop leaders, crazy weather, and just a ton of sharing and learning going on. I offered to teach one workshop on working with babies and children. I had a huge turnout, about 40 photographers early on a Sunday morning! We talked about different ways of doing business, some of the challenges in working with little ones, and developing a photography style that reflects who you are, not just as a photographer but as a person. I also did a brief demo of how I approach a session and work with families. Big thanks to Jen Stewart for this shot:
We had a number of adorable familes who came over for us to photograph. I spent most of the shooting time running around and checking in with all the groups, but here are a few images I made that morning. Big thanks to Big Folio for hosting the unconference, and to Kenneth Morgan for letting us use his meeting and studio space for this workshop! Huge props to the families that came out and let us photograph the kids - they were all such superstars!

thanks so much Dawn, the girls had a great time, awesome picture of them!!
